Movement drawing

Circle, Zig Zag, Straight line, Your own shape to draw

During choreography class we were instructed to draw any symbols that the teach would say without picking up our pencils. We had to draw a circle, a zig zag, a straight line and our own shape. The objective of this assignment was when keeping your pen on the paper and not picking it up just to keep a pattern was when dancing you keep moving without thinking of what comes next, such as improvisation while you move, while demonstrating our shapes we drew.

Senior Dance project- Rehearsal/ Tadazsha's motif

* This is a motif I wanted to see Tadazsha (Tede) demonstrate. She will be symbolizing me in my dance. She'll be acting as if she always wants to follow my brother and sister ( Jimmy and Vanessa) and towards the end have a solo dance but very different and stronger than the first solo in the beginning. This will show her detachment away from them and being more independence.

Senior Dance Project - Rehearsal/ Motif of Vanessa

* This is Vanessa's motif that I had her do to show me what her struggles are and what movements she is more comfortable with doing. In this motif I had her symbolize my older sister, As I explained in Jimmy's motif.

Senior Dance Project - Outline

My theme of my Senior Dance Project : Umbrella theme, (Growth)

The roots of my dance starts from ..
  • Always wanting to be around my older siblings and follow their every move. My older brother and sister were very to themselves and I wanted to grow up so fast just so I can be able to do the things they were able to do. They were interested in basketball and track and field sports and I wanted to copy them and in middle school I joined the girl's basketball team and the track and field team. I loved to run but soon realized I wanted to branch off away from what they "always" did and go on my own path.

* Therefore in my dance I want to show the growth in how I was following my older brother and sister at first and then eventually finding my own calling in what I do best, which is dance. I also want to show how this is very different from what my brother and sister do and that's also why I wanted to do it. Then towards the end I want to be more alone that will show strength and independence with branching away from them.

Senior Dance Project Rehearsal Motif of Jimmy

  • My first rehearsal was consisting of introducing my theme to my dancers and making sure they understood my vision of how I want my dance to go. I told each person (3 people) which sibling of mine they were going to be symbolizing and told them a little background of my siblings and their personality.
  • I had each dancer make a short motif of the character they were going to be dancing like, in this motif my dancer Djimmy was symbolizing my older brother. I told Jimmy to dance make a little solo acting very independent and always wanting to protect your younger sisters. Not having much of a father figure around put a empty hole in our lives, his movements were very small and more strong.
  • I'm going to take all of my dancer movements and put a dance together in shape of what they dance like.

Senior Dance Choreo- Tiffany's Piece

Tiffany's Dance with classmates

 - This is also another one I was apart of, taking choreography from my classmate Tiffany. She wanted to symbolize the ocean, almost like the water (How the water moves). I think this was very successful in the way she wanted us to move around and the movements being similar to water.

Senior Dance Choreo - Hassian's piece

Within our groups, We had to learn what the choreographer which is Hassian in this case wanted us to do. We had to teach our group what we wanted our senior piece to almost look like, This one is Hassian's dance and we also had to get familiar with stage directions and using dance terms as well. So we can begin our Senior Dance of our own. That would be the next stage in moving up if we were successful with making our classmates symbolize what we wanted our dance to be.

Choreography within groups PT.1

As a class we slpit up into groups, groups of four. We were instructed to teach our group our solo's from previous classes. As with teaching the group your dance you also had to input some dance choreographic terms in our dance to make it look like a whole dance put together while making each dancer(group member) perform it. Some terms I used to begin with my dance is
                                                                                                                 - Canon
                                                                                                                    - Contrast
                                                                                                                  - Climax
I used canon a lot throughout this piece so one of my feedbacks was to make sure I have CLARITY through some of my moves and make more of my movements faster and bigger all together. It kind of looks predictable with watching my piece and that's exactly what I don't want, I want the dancers to move even faster and so you'll never know what's going to happen next. That's what I have to work on for improving this dance and also incorporate some counterpoints in my dance and make sure the movements where I want to elongate the movement is very clear and slow.
